Recycle your batteries at the office |
Battery recycling bins are now available in each of the office suites (copy rooms or kitchens).
Why recycle batteries:
Typical household batteries contain several hazardous components (like mercury, lead acid, and heavy metals) that leak into the environment from improper disposal sites contaminating drinking water, soil, and habitat.
Are all batteries the same?
This office recycling project is only for non-rechargeable alkaline batteries (double A, triple A, C, D, 9-volt, etc.). There are many battery technologies out there that use different chemicals and require different disposal/recycling methods. We are looking into what it takes to handle everything but, for now, we're only taking plain old alkies.
Remember rechargeables:
Rechargeable batteries save money in the long run and the environment immediately. As your old-school batteries die out, dump them in the recycle bin and then replace them with rechargeables. It's the smart way to go. And by the time the rechargeables are eventually worn out, we'll have a place to recycle them here at the office too.
