For the second year, theTroy Foundation for Education Excellence is holding its fund-raising walk in memory of the former Troy Schools superintendent, Janet Jopke, who died in June 2005.

"We thought it was an appropriate way of recognizing her," said Tim McAvoy, director of community relations for the district. He said Jopke was a strong supporter of education and the Troy community.

The foundation is sponsoring the Dr. Janet H. Jopke Memorial Steppin' Out for Excellence Fun Walk on Sept. 30 to raise funds for Troy student programs supported by the nonprofit organization.
