Daniel G. Mulhern, Michigan's first "First Gentleman,"
is a champion for the cause of state volunteerism and community service,
chairing the Michigan Community Service Commission. He is an experienced
Leadership coach and organizational development expert who works to make
Michigan a great place to do great work. He is a tireless advocate for
kids who has undertaken an enormous effort called Mentor Michigan that
works to ensure that all of Michigan's children have an opportunity
to be influenced and taught by a caring adult. He will share personal
experiences about real people as leaders, exploring successful strategies
and various misconceptions he's observed. Hear Dan's thoughts and ideas
on how to negotiate the various challenges leadership can present.

1/25/07 Pedro Noguera is a professor in the Steinhart School
of Education at New York University. An urban sociologist, Noguera's research
focuses on the ways in which schools are influenced by social and economic
conditions in the urban environment. Directing his attention at school
administrators, Noguera will explore trends in social behavior and steps
administrators can take to create a successful environment for teaching
and learning. His books, Unfinished Business and City Schools
and the American Dream (available at the conference) explore the
critical topics of closing the racial achievement gap and reclaiming the
promise of public educaiton.
