Two years after the opening of the new Lakeview High School —part of the Lakeview School District led by MASA member Cindy Ruble —the building continues to receive national recognition for innovative design and impact on teaching and learning. Since 1983, American School & University (AS&U) magazine has hosted the premier competitions for education design projects. This year, thirty-four high schools across the country were recognized as “Outstanding Buildings.” Lakeview High School was the only high school nationally to earn the prestigious Citation Award in the annual Architectural Portfolio competition. Through this recognition, the district’s work will influence new educational facility projects across the nation! This is the second time that Lakeview High School has been recognized by AS&U. The project also received a “Work in Progress Citation” in AS&U’s 2004 Architectural Portfolio. The school was also featured in the October 2006 issue of MIBIZ Magazine. The Lakeview High School project details and award information have been published in AS&U’s 25th Anniversary Architectural Portfolio, a publication deemed as “a commemorative sourcebook that will be used for years to come by administrators and Universities across the country.” Award Commentary: – American School & University Magazine, November 2007 “ Lakeview High School ’s Classroom of the Future was set in motion through inspiration and imagination but had little in the way of experience or existing models from which to find direction.” -MIBIZ Magazine, October 16, 2006 “Flexible and adaptable teaching space gives the feeling of openness. Students will feel welcomed by the layout, light and concept.” – American School & University Magazine, August 2004 Additional information is available on the AS&U website at: www.schooldesigns.com.
