At this year’s MASA Distinguished Administrators’ Luncheon, 13 new MASA members were inducted into the Winners’ Circle. These members were honored by the Membership Services Committee for initiating a unique, successful program or implementing an innovative idea that has had a significant, positive impact on their school districts that can be used by other districts across the state. This year’s inductees include:

Special Education DVD for parents

The Special Education DVD for parents program Mason-Lake ISD has developed a DVD for parents that can be viewed at home and that takes them through the entire Special Education process from identification and testing through the IEP process and their rights under the law. The DVD was made available to the entire state, and a generic version has been developed and shared so every parent has a valuable tool that requires no reading. The DVD allows parents to feel comfortable and knowledgeable as they enter the world of Special Education.

The ISD has received rave reviews from viewers throughout the state. Last December, they presented the DVD at AESA in Tampa . Parents love the format, ease of understanding and sensitivity to the feelings they are experiencing as they try to learn the process upon which they are about to embark.
