Without immediate action to address the looming health workforce crises, the U.S. is at risk of losing its status as the global health care leader, warns a new report. "Out of Order, Out of Time: The State of the Nation’s Health Workforce" notes that the nation is running out of time to address the health workforce and calls for immediate action to create the infrastructure for policymaking that will respond to 21st century needs. The report, conducted by the Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC), recognizes that current fragmented and uncoordinated health workforce policymaking cannot solve the urgent systemic problems we face, and calls for a new, comprehensive and integrated national approach to health workforce policymaking and planning. The report was unveiled at a press briefing where a panel of experts discussed key findings and made recommendations to help avert a health workforce crisis. The AAHC (www.aahcdc.org) is a national non-profit association dedicated to advancing the nation's health and well-being through leadership in health professions education, patient care, and research.
