Spotlight On: Superintendent Salary Data

The Educational Research Service has released the latest data on personnel salaries in K-12 education, “Salaries and Wages Paid Professional and Support Personnel in Public Schools, 2007-08.” ERS reports the average salaries for superintendents by size of school district and geographic region. Data also is disaggregated by a school district’s per-pupil expenditure level and community type (large urban, small town, rural, etc.). Following are highlights from the report; the numbers in parentheses relate to the previous year (2006-07).

Average superintendent salary nationally, 2007-08, $148,387 (2006-07, $141,191)
