Curriculum Review Teams

Through a collaborative process of professional learning between Holland Public School staff and Ottawa Area ISD's math consultant, the staff of Holland 's East K-8 school systematically mapped their mathematics curriculum for horizontal and vertical alignment. They created a guaranteed and viable math curriculum with aligned instructional activities.

The staff conducted frequent formative assessments to adjust instruction to meet differentiated student needs. To support each other, a learning community was created around quality mathematics instruction allowing teachers the opportunity to address the learning needs of students who were struggling as well as those who had already achieved mastery.

As a result, East K-8 school has achieved a double digit increase from 2005-06 to 2006-07 in student performance as measured by the MEAP in mathematics.
