The Michigan Merit Curriculum requires all students, beginning with the graduating class of 2016, to complete two credits of a world language other than English prior to graduation, or demonstrate a two-year equivalent proficiency. Districts need to design assessments to determine if students have achieved proficiency at the Novice High Level based on the American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Proficiency Guidelines.

The professional development sessions will focus on prototype assessments in Spanish and French.
