Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) and Michigan Associa­tion of School Administrators (MASA) are pleased to offer a profes­sional development opportunity for aspiring superintendents interested in learning skills and strategies to prepare them for the challenging and rewarding responsibilities of being a superintendent.

Successful superintendents agree that their longevity in a school district isn’t only attributed to excellent leadership competencies, but also to establishing a working rapport with the school board, which enhances their ability to lead the district. This two day workshop, moderated by Dr. J. Mark Rainey, promises to be a practical and realistic approach to the day-to-day duties of a superintendent taught by former superin­tendents and educational leaders.

Learn about strategies for building a solid relationship with the school board, focusing on mission and priorities, and gaining knowledge of the basics of school finance, school law and negotiations. An entire afternoon will be dedicated to the superinten­dent selection process including gaining skills in portfolio development, resumé/vita development and interviewing skills. MASB and MASA staff will offer guidelines on how to successfully pursue and land a superintendent position. Successful graduates of this series will automatically be included in MASB’s database of potential superintendent candidates.
