MASA Talk

The MASA interactive listserv provides a member forum for discussion on hot topics facing superintendents and firstline assistants. Ask a question, throw out an idea, tap the ideas and resources of colleagues across the state.
MASATalk is an opt-in, un-moderated discussion forum for MASA members only. The lists 30 participants (so far) hope that the quality of the dialogue and efforts to promote it will soon attract many others.

Any MASA member can join—no pre-approval needed. The listserv has been created to help facilitate the timely exchange of information, opinion and assistance on issues and activities of importance to MASA members. Just send an email to jharder@gomasa.org or lwacyk@gomasa.org and we will add you as a participant.

Once you’ve been added as a participant, here’s how it will work.

Just send an email message to masatalk@listserv.melg.org whenever you have a question, comment, or need for information or resources. This will connect you with trusted colleagues who can answer questions, offer advice, and provide different perspectives to common issues school leaders face. Listserv members can reply to the entire group (just hit “reply”), and the discussion begins. Or for more privacy, reply directly to the member asking a question (copy the sender’s e-mail address into your “to” field in a new e-mail message). Either way, you will have the benefit of direct answers, on-time, from a variety of voices.

NOTE: Since the “from” line will indicate a MASATalk listserv message and not the sender’s name, you should include your name and e-mail address in your signature so the group will know who is “talking.” This will also facilitate the ability to reply to just the sender and not to the entire group.

Topics for Talk?

The sky is the limit when it comes to topics open for discussion, but could include dialogue about:

  • Policies and practices in other districts.
  • Opportunities for collaboration or consolidation of services.
  • Communications strategies other districts have used around negotiations, millages, etc.
  • Data-based decision making.
  • New teacher mentoring and induction.
  • Early childhood efforts on a shoestring budget.
  • Early intervention strategies that work.
  • Best practices in early intervention, high school reform, and more.

MASATalk Guidelines

Here are a few guidelines we ask you to follow:

  1. Please be courteous in your posts, and refrain from insults, personal attacks or abusive language. (To read our complete policy, click here.)

  2. The MASA Talk Listserv is un-moderated and uncensored. The responsibility for posts is entirely that of the poster of the message.
